Christian Community Church

BELGIUM

On the weekend of 19 to 22nd October, 15 of us will be going to Belgium for a weekened of mission in liaison with an evangelical church in the Liege area.

We will be involved in a range of activities as you will see from our timetable

We would be grateful if you would pray for us in our preparation taking place now and over the weekend that God would use us to bring a breakthrough into the lives of Belgian people in a country which is very closed to the Gospel.

The church in Belgium has sent us an article from a local newspaper talking about secular and occult growth in Belgium, especially in the Ardennes. The article focusses on a witch village called Vielsam. Our partners in Belgium have a cell group in the region and are praying about planting a church there. They are also involved in a church plant in the German area of Belgium on the east of the country. In this part of Belgum they have not seen any decisions for Christ in the last 3 years emphasing the spiritual resistance in that area.

NAGALAND

BACKGROUND

Nagaland is a state in North East India, bordering on Burma to the East and Assam to the West. Although part of India since 1947, Nagaland is ethnically, culturally, economically and spiritually different from the rest of the country.
The Naga people bear Mongolian features and are divided into 16 main tribal groups. Some live in the few main towns but the majority live in the 800+ small, isolated rural villages, surviving mainly on agriculture and animal rearing.  In such places, the infrastructure is very inadequate and there is limited funding from the Government. There are poor roads, poor telecommunications a limited electricity and running water, and lack of educational and medical facilities.  Despite all this, the people are extremely warm, hospitable and generous with a deep Christian faith.

AKUMEN

Akumen village is a small, isolated village surrounded by beautiful jungle with 400 adults and 60 children close to the Assam border.  The village has just received electricity but there is no running water and only a narrow dirt access road dug by the villagers.  The nearest bus is 3 km away.  The village infrastructure is very simple but orderly overseen by the village chief and a council of 8 men. Akumen has a small school for the youngest children, a village hall and a church providing the focus of the community.

The villagers live in simple cane, wood and bamboo houses. The level of Government funding to develop the infrastructure of the village has been pitifully small and this lack makes life in the village extremely limited.

What we have achieved already
In November 2005 and 2006 a group of 12 people from Southwick Christian Community Church spent time in Akumen village working on three different projects.

  • Education and Training
  • Medical
  • Building

Since returning it has been wonderful to reflect on the trips and see what we were able to accomplish. As a result of the development in the village we see the potential for further growth with new projects planned in 2007/08 when other teams will again be visiting Akumen.

SOUTH AFRICA

FACTS

  • South Africa is Africa’s richest, most industrialised country.
  • It is a land which has peacefully transitioned from apartheid to democracy with commendable success.
  • Home of Nelson Mandela, who has consistently stood against racism and inspired his fellow Africans to forgive and live in peace.
  • A land with freedom of religion where Biblical Christianity is thriving and growing in influence.
  • A land where the church is struggling to minister to the tremendous needs of urban dwellers, AIDS victims, children and young people with limited resources

PRAY FOR SOUTH AFRICA

  • That the Government will be stable and will make fair and just policies which will enhance the lives of all its peoples.
  • That there will be on-going healing and reconciliation to continue to overcome the deep hurts that have scarred the soul of the nation for many years.
  • For economic growth so that the levels of poverty in the lives of so many South Africans will fall and all may have jobs.
  • For the police and judiciary to be effective in overcoming the very high levels of violent crime in the land that is hindering tourism, investment and security for the people.
  • For all who work with AIDS patients and the many Christian ministries seeking to combat this illness which claims 1200 lives per day.
